Difference Self-Improvement and Self-Care: self-improvement and self-care tips

Self-improvement refers to when we recognize something within us that has a place for improvement and work towards that change, meanwhile, self-care refers to engaging in activities that can improve our mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Self-improvement is the creation of a better version of our lives. Throughout our lives, we work on acquiring new skills, knowledge and qualities now and then. These new traits and activities further make us well-trained to achieve our goals.

So here are a few self-improvement tips to shape your life:

  • Set goals: Identify the things that you wanna work on and set goals for each. Create a list or maybe even implement a whole planner. Make your goals clear and official to yourself.

  • Tomorrow never comes: Start now! Stop with the excuses and don't let your procrastination get to you. You are working towards improving yourself and now is always the right time for that. The more you let time pass, the farther you are from improving yourself.

  • Prioritise what's important: There may be a lot of things we want to improve in ourselves so it's important to know what's our topmost priority. As days go by, we lose motivation and it'll be harder to work for improvement if we focus on smaller tasks that don't hold much importance towards us or our overall development.

  • Imperfect improvements: Mistakes are meant to be made for further improvement, don't let them prevent you from reaching your end goals. Progress is not linear so be prepared to face both the ups and downs of your journey.

Self-care is essential in maintaining and nurturing the versions of our body that are currently existing. Partaking in activities that mitigate stress, allows us to feel balanced, minimise tension and improve our overall well-being.

So here are a few self-care tips for the betterment of our health:

  • Get a proper good night's rest: Good sleep is essential to be productive and lack of sleep is hazardous to one's health. Make sure you're getting enough sleep. Reduce the usage of blue light before bedtime. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night to help you feel rested, energised, and refreshed.

  • Eating habits: Eat healthily, maintain regular meals and stay hydrated. The stomach is the mouth to the soul so don't undervalue the requirement for a healthy diet but more important your favourite food. Aim to drink at least 2l of water every day and limit the consumption of caffeinated beverages.

  • Meditate: Meditating daily keeps your mind calm and collected. It improves concentration and lets you focus on yourself instead of letting you worry about your future. Meditation takes practice but it shows a major effect on one's overall stress levels.

  • Leisure activities: Get yourself engrossed in a fun activity and make it your new hobby. Making time for a small leisure activity in day-to-day life can help you regulate the stress that you receive from a busy schedule. Look for a cost-efficient hobby that doesn't take up much time, preferably something you could do yourself.
