National doctors day

National Doctors' Day is a day commemorated to appreciate the contributions of medics to solitary lives and populations. The date may vary from nation to nation depending on the occasion of remembrance used to signify the day. In some provinces, the day is marked as a holiday.

July 1 is dedicated as the Doctors’ Day across India to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy is frequently portrayed as the Dhanvantari of the modern era. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on the same date in 1962, at the age of 80. The celebration of the Doctors' Day is an attempt to emphasise on the value of doctors in our lives and to offer them our respects by commemorating one of their greatest representatives. India has shown remarkable improvements in the medical field and July 1 pays a tribute to all the doctors who have made relentless efforts towards achieving this goal irrespective of the odds.

National Doctor’s Day is an opportunity for the people to express their gratitude towards Doctors. This day is dedicated to all medical professionals who work and serve patients round the clock to save lives. Doctor’s Day 2020 is being celebrated for acknowledging the services of doctors and their huge contribution to the medical advancement in India.

Here's what Dr Alzira Anne Larceda and Dr Neelam Borkar got to say on the occasion of National Doctors Day.

Dr Alzira Anne Lacerda
BDS, PGD Oral Implantology

I always wanted to be a Doctor. Even as a toddler. From tending to my classmates scraped knees to removing thorns from a pet's paw. I cherished it all. After 15 years of Graduating Dental school- I still feel and connect with my patient's pain while I treat them. Being a Doctor teaches you from being compassionate, caring, always putting your patients care before your own.
In these trying days while we brave the raging Pandemic COVID19- our healthcare workers have been true warriors. Donning their armour, selflessly working through tiring routines to make people better and grieving when they lose the fight.
Yes- we cry too.

It was very difficult-staying home for 75 days when Dentists were asked to keep their clinics closed. Patients were in pain but we had to stay home to flatten the curve. That was difficult for me. Much more difficult than putting in a 15-hour workday.

Unfortunately, we have also received a lot of backlashes as we face trying times. People have gone through a lot in these days and situations make them unkind- I say this to encourage every aspiring Doctor. Please don’t let your dream of becoming a Doctor turns into a nightmare by listening to negative media. Yes- it’s tiring and trying. But it’s also very rewarding and comforting. Taking away someone’s pain- nothing can compare to that.
On Doctors Day I wish every Doctor happiness, contentment and good health. We work as a team and without our support staff, receptionists, nurses, assistants, ward boys, cleaners, the security we would surely have a tough time. Thank You. Most importantly I thank all patients for entrusting us as Your Doctor.

Happy Doctors Day to all Doctors .... and to every Future Doctor too!

Dr Neelam Borkar

Being a doctor I do feel special as I get to meet new people, they open up to me and I try to figure out their problem. Being a gynaecologist there are challenging and demanding cases emerging up towards me- lots of infertility patients. When I see their cheerful complexion when their pregnancy test appears positive, the tears in their eyes I feel certainly incredible and delighted. Patients call us god but we are not. God does everything I am just a mediator. You feel satisfied when patients come to you and you are able to solve their problems and catch a glimpse of them going home jovially.
My only belief is people should trust the doctors and respect their endeavours to cure them.
In the corona crisis, doctors are front liners compromising their life for the treatment of patients and endangering the life of their family too.
No matter a stressful job but bestows sound sleep at night when you believe the patient was saved because of their efforts.
HAPPY DOCTORS DAY

  2. We honor the contribution and dedication of the doctors and all other health care workers in these difficult times. The health care workers are working tirelessly and also putting their own health in danger. I appreciate this small step which Dwinnie has taken of recognizing their selfless service to the society. The encouraging words from the doctors also give us the strength to face this situation with a positive attitude 🙂
