International Women's Day
On March 8th, the world commemorates International
Women's Day (IWD). It is a focal point of the women's rights movement.
After the Socialist Party of America held a Women's
Day in New York City on February 28, 1909, German delegates Clara Zetkin, Kรคte
Duncker, Paula Thiede, and others suggested that "a special Women's
Day" be held annually at the 1910 International Socialist Women's
Conference. March 8 became a national holiday in Soviet Russia after women were
granted suffrage in 1917. Until around 1967, the feminist movement embraced the
day, it was mostly observed by the socialist movement and communist countries.
The day was first commemorated by the United Nations in 1977.

The theme for this year's Women's Day is "Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19
Environment." It
emphasises how women can participate equally in decision-making processes,
especially those involving policymaking.

Organizations that want to be associated with the campaign use it.

It is an honour and a great privilege for me to
represent the community as President of the Inner Wheel Club of
Curchorem-Sanvordem for the 2020-21 year, which is the world's second-largest
organisation. 'Friendship and Service' is our main slogan, which allows us to
make friends from all over the world but still supports our society. Our theme
this year is "Lead the Change," and our key initiatives
include educating every girl child, guiding them on menstrual health and the
importance of nutritious food, woman empowerment, assisting orphanages and old
age homes, assisting people in keeping our surroundings safe and green, and
guiding people on water conservation, which is a pressing need. I, along with
my fellow members, provide such service to society while also enjoying
friendship and fellowship among ourselves. When we take on various club
positions each year while still looking after our houses, friends, and
careers, this organisation helps us to be self-sufficient and multitask.
I grew up in
Hubli and moved to Goa after completing my B.Com and marrying Mr Hanuman
Pednekar. I completed a Beautician course, learned Zardozi work, flower making,
and candle making, and went on to become the first female entrepreneur,
conducting classes for women. I also enjoy acting and dancing, and I've judged
several competitions. I am currently employed by Vestige Marketing and
serve as a resource for Jan Shikshan Sausthaan.
Nice job as always Dwinnie. Ms Pednekar's work is so valueable. It is right to honor all the pioneers who have given us the freedoms we enjoy today and work hard to make a difference in future generations .
ReplyDeleteWe have far to go yet. COVID has been specially hard on women who have had to give up careers to take care of their family.
Happy Women's day and let us each do our best to make a difference. May the future world offer all women equal opportunity to suceed. As Ruth Bainer Ginsberg said "I ask no favor for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.”
Thank you so much.
