World Civil Defence Day

Every year on March 1st, the world commemorates World Civil Defence Day. The theme of World Civil Defence Day 2021 is "STRONG CIVIL PROTECTION TO PRESERVE THE NATIONAL ECONOMY," which will be observed on March 1, 2021. The International Civil Defence Organization founded on this day in 1990. (ICDO).

The day commemorates the International Civil Defence Organization's (ICDO) Constitution coming into force as an intergovernmental organization in 1972, with two key goals: drawing global attention to the crucial value of civil security and raising consciousness of preparedness, prevention, and self-protection measures in the event of accidents or disasters.

The International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) is an intergovernmental agency whose mission is to assist States in the creation of mechanisms that ensure population security and assistance, as well as the protection of property and the environment, in the event of natural and man-made disasters. Civil security, civil defence, and public safety are also words used to describe organisations that deal with emergency situations. The ICDO brings together national frameworks formed by states for this purpose in order to foster cooperation and mutual solidarity.

The International Civil Defence Organization's flag (ICDO flag) is a symbol of honor and prestige. It acts as a reminder to representatives, spectators, and affiliated organizations of the value of working to enforce the Organization's decisions, as well as the reverence owed to the Organization and its Law.

Look at this picture below. How do you feel as you look at it? Does it provide comfort, or does it leave you feeling agitated?  The above picture is a classical example of a liminal space. Stemming from the Latin word “threshold”, a liminal space is a transitional zone. It isn’t a place one stays for long. For example, when you go to the train station, you don’t intend to just stay at the platform. The real purpose would be to use that platform to get on a train and travel elsewhere. Here, the station platform becomes an in-between place. It could also be an area one lingers in but feels a transition, such as waiting rooms or hallways. Usually, these places are jam-packed with people. Seeing no life in an otherwise crowded locale gives off an eerie feeling.
