International Dance Day
Dance is a type of performance art that consists of improvised or pre-planned movement sequences. This campaign has both aesthetic and symbolic significance. Dance may be classified and defined based on its choreography, dance repertoire, or historical period or location of origin. Although these two types are not always entirely different, there is a distinction to be made between the contexts of theatrical and participatory dance; each may have particular roles, whether social, ceremonial, athletic, sexual, martial, or sacred/liturgical. Other types of human movement, such as martial arts, gymnastics, cheerleading, figure skating, synchronized swimming, marching bands, and many other sports, are often said to have a dance-like quality.
The Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), UNESCO's principal partner for the performing arts, produced International Dance Day as a global festival of dance. Every year on the 29th of April, the festival commemorates the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), the father of modern ballet. Via competitions and festivals organized on the date all over the world, the day aims to promote interest and education in dance. ITI is officially recognized by UNESCO as the event's founders and organizers.
The Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI, UNESCO's principal affiliate for the performing arts, produced International Dance Day. The International Dance Committee and the International Theatre Institute ITI have chosen an exceptional dance celebrity to compose a letter for International Dance Day every year since its inception in 1982. This day is a celebration for those who recognize the significance and popularity of the art form "dance," as well as a wake-up call for states, leaders, and organizations who have yet to recognize the art form's relevance to the people and personalities, as well as its economic growth potential.
Theme: The International Dance Day 2021 theme is ‘Purpose of dance’.
Here's what Prerna Jagdish an instructor at Bal Bhavan - Margao and Bloomz International School, Nuvem got to say on International Dance Day
Dance came to my life as a hobby class. But as years passed it turned to be my passion. Moreover, dance was something that my mother wanted to do, and I feel blessed to fulfill her dream. I started dance at a very early age of 6yrs. Did my Bharatnatyam Arangetram in the year 2008, since then I have not looked back. Started working at a very early age of 17 at Bal Bhavan Kendra Margao. I’m also a dance instructor at Bloomz International School, Nuvem. To me, Dance is a gift that brings people together with creativity and music. Dance is joyous and brings unity with that happiness. It’s the opportunity to be able to pursue expression and beauty through movement and imagination. Also, to be surrounded by people on and off the stage who are also transported by dance. I love to dance because it makes me happy and I love the way my body moves with the music and the rhythm. For me, It's literally magical. Dancing helps in improving and maintain the quality of life more than any human activity. My thought about dancing is that it makes me feel alive.
My brother Pritesh and myself are running a dance academy called P & P DANCE ACADEMY where we train students in the field of Bharatnatyam dance up till Masters in Bharatnatyam ( M.A). We are also having our team where we perform various folk dances (Goan and Indian) and all other western forms and every time we perform, it hypes me up because everyday we spend about 5–6 hours practicing our routine. And being able to perform the routine, it definitely shows that we practiced so hard to kill it on the dance floor. And it feels even better when everyone is watching you and hyping you up at the same time. Before my team and I perform, we hug each other and tell each other that we’re going to do great out there. That we worked our butts off to dance this routine. And by the time we perform, we’re like different people. We switch in into our dance mode, where we hit our moves powerful, use facial expressions, and always making sure that we’re in the right formation. Really happy to inform that we have performed in various festivals, and competitions in and around Goa.
Recently we have performed for the inaugural function of the new High Court of Bombay at Goa in Porvorim. We also have a youtube channel naming P and P dance academy. Dance makes me feel so alive because I live for dance. Without dance, I honestly wouldn’t know what other talent I had in myself. Dance allowed me to show a different side of me that I never knew I had. And ever since then, I’m happy that I was able to discover that new side of me. And being able to experience new things when dancing. Dance is honestly what I live for and probably will live for when I die.
Very well written
